My Journey as an Animal Advocate

Home Animal Advocate

2020 - Volunteering for Homeless Pets

At the 2020 Winter Care Village for Oakland’s houseless people, I worked with an amazing team of volunteers from the San Francisco Bay Area community, and provided care for pets in the area.

As a pet owner myself and a huge advocate for animal and pet well-being, I have always taken pleasure in volunteering my time to help pets in need. I feel a great sense of purpose when I help animals, as if I am leaving a positive footprint on Earth. I often seek opportunities to give back to the pet care community.

2019 & 2021 - COSTA RICA Continued Education

The summer before my sophomore year of high school, I chose to attend a study abroad program in Costa Rica. The academic trip sponsored by the National Leadership Academy was designed for pre-veterinary high school students whose goal is to enter the medical field. The two-week long trip included working hand in hand with veterinarians at Escuela de Medicina y Cirugía Veterinaria San Francisco de Asis, observing surgeries and other medical procedures as well as participating in anatomy classes and dissection.

I was also able to work with native wildlife in multiple wildlife sanctuaries, observed medical procedures, and assisted with feeding and husbandry. The experience was so memorable and humbling that I decided to go back to Costa Rica this summer to attend the same program.

Volunteered for the Pet & Wildlife Fund

While volunteering for the Pet and Wildlife Fund, I supported the non-profit with the following:

  • Veterinary outreach
  • Provided medical services to pets belonging to the homeless
  • Helped raise money for wildlife in need through fundraising efforts
  • Interacted with local pet owners and local businesses
  • Coordinated weekly events, which were held locally in the San Francisco Bay Area
